MT4 & MT5 installation guide
Tools from the library run only in a desktop MetaTrader terminal on your own computer or VPS — never inside this website. Check each tool page for the platform it was built for; an MT4 file (.ex4/.mq4) will not run in MT5 (.ex5/.mq5) or the reverse.
1. Open the data folder
In the terminal choose File → Open Data Folder. Then open the MQL4 folder (MT4) or MQL5 folder (MT5).
2. Place each file
- Expert Advisors (.ex4/.ex5/.mq4/.mq5):
MQL4/ExpertsorMQL5/Experts - Indicators:
MQL4/IndicatorsorMQL5/Indicators - Scripts:
MQL4/ScriptsorMQL5/Scripts - Presets (.set):
MQL4/Presets(MT4) orMQL5/Presets(MT5) - Templates (.tpl): the
templatesfolder in the data folder root - Archives (.zip): extract first, then place each file as above. Read any included manual (.pdf).
3. Refresh or restart
In the Navigator panel (Ctrl+N) right-click Expert Advisors or Indicators and choose Refresh. If the tool still doesn't appear, restart the terminal.
4. Attach to a chart
Open a chart for the instrument and timeframe listed on the tool page. Drag the EA or indicator from the Navigator onto the chart. For EAs, enable Allow Algo Trading (MT5) / Allow live trading (MT4) in the dialog, and make sure the AutoTrading / Algo Trading toolbar button is on.
5. Configure inputs
Use the Inputs tab to set parameters, or click Load to apply a .set preset. Check lot size, stop-loss and any risk settings before starting. Only enable DLL imports if the tool's documentation explicitly requires it and you trust the source.
6. Test on a demo account first
Run the tool on a demo account for a meaningful period before using real funds. You can also use the Strategy Tester (Ctrl+R). Historical or demo results do not guarantee future results.
Troubleshooting
- Tool not in Navigator: wrong folder or wrong platform (MT4 vs MT5). Re-check step 2 and refresh.
- Sad face icon on chart / EA not trading: Algo Trading is disabled, or the market is closed.
- "Trade is disabled" or "Invalid volume": your account type or symbol doesn't allow the lot size; adjust inputs.
- "Cannot load … .ex4/.ex5": the file was built for a newer terminal build — update the terminal.
- Symbol not found: your broker may use a suffix (e.g. EURUSD.m). Open the matching symbol's chart.
- Check the Experts and Journal tabs in the Toolbox (Ctrl+T) for error messages, and include them when contacting support.
